Hey :-) Thanks for the mention in the Russian FAQ page about a tour where something DID go wrong, lol. The scary thing was it happened at the Contiki hotel at a bar where the whole group was hanging out. Deperate needs means sometimes desperate measures. There were some other scary things that happened on our tour that I didn't write in my blog. Like a guy knocked on the hotel room door of a guy on tour, and tried to force his way in when he opened it. He started saying, "Passport", but he was just some guy off the street. He got momentarily distracted by someone walking down the corridor, and the guy from tour was able to force the door closed and locked it. Some of the local guides stories are quite hair-raising as well. In Moscow I also spotted an older American guy who got his drink spiked as well. Russia is definitely worth going to - it's an amazing place. Just be extremely careful, listen to your tour manager and local guides carefully, and stay with the group. It is definitely NOT a safe country.
